What is neuropsychology?

Neuropsychology is a discipline of psychology that specializes in the study of brain function to make clinical judgments about the nature and severity of cognitive problems of various origins.

Our neuropsychologists advocate a personalized approach to the needs of the client and those of their entourage. They have been trained in various hospital settings as well as in private clinics under the supervision of Marie-Claude Guay, Ph.D., instructor and professor of psychology at UQAM and director of the Centre de psychologie M-C Guay. Through their partnership with the Ekinox clinic, Dr. Guay and our neuropsychologists are committed to providing better access to services outside the Montreal area.

What happens during an appointment?

The evaluation is conducted by a neuropsychologist who holds a doctorate in psychology specializing in the evaluation of neuropsychological disorders and is a member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec and the Association québécoise des neuropsychologues.

Any evaluation is carried out through the completion of a series of standardized tests and activities that measure a set of cognitive functions (e.g., intellectual functioning, language, attention, memory, reasoning, planning, speed of information processing) allowing for the establishment of a complete cognitive profile or one that is adapted to the reason for the consultation.

The profile of cognitive, affective and social functioning that is established helps the client, as well as those around them, to better understand the nature of their difficulties in order to implement solutions adapted to their condition and specific needs. Thus, the recommendations resulting from the neuropsychological evaluation allow the client to reduce the impact of cognitive difficulties on their daily life in order to improve their quality of life.
