Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is an approach similar to guided meditation. By opening the door to the unconscious, this method helps to better manage issues such as anxiety, depression and addictions, all in a safe and caring environment.

What is hypnotherapy?

This discipline has its origins in ancient practices such as shamanism, which enabled access to altered states of consciousness and communication with the spiritual world.

This approach was formalized in the 18th century by figures such as Franz Anton Mesmer, who introduced the concept of “magnetism”. Mesmer believed in the existence of an invisible force, which he called “magnetic fluid”, capable of influencing the health and well-being of individuals.

In the 19th century, hypnosis was further developed by physicians such as James Braid, who popularized the term “hypnosis”. Since then, it has evolved into a recognized therapeutic approach, used in a variety of medical and psychological contexts.

Today, hypnotherapy is a thousand-hour training course offered in private schools around the world. The therapeutic process involves a detachment from the rational mind and a greater connection to the unconscious, which helps to unearth the root of a given problem. Once the source has been identified, whether it’s a limiting belief, unconscious programming or other impediment to self-fulfillment, the person can make connections with their current situation and mobilize resources to promote wellness and achieve desired goals.

At Ekinox, sessions are guided by our hypnotherapist and specialized educator, Maxime Roy.

  • How do I feel during and after a hypnotherapy session?

Just as in meditation or sleep, you may see images flash through your mind, hear messages or experience sensations such as shivering and slight spasms. At the end of a session, it's natural to feel very zen, as if you'd just woken up from a long, restful sleep.
  • Why turn to hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy promotes awareness and self-knowledge, enabling us to be in harmony with who we are and what we want in our lives. This approach removes intrusive thoughts and brings us closer to our deepest aspirations and informed choices. By helping us to explore our limiting beliefs and modify negative thought patterns, hypnotherapy opens the way to personal fulfillment and a life more aligned with our values.
  • Do I risk losing control during the session?

In a hypnotherapy session, the patient remains fully aware and in control. This process opens the way for the unconscious mind to facilitate positive changes in the client's life. So, rather than taking control of the patient, this approach empowers them to take greater responsibility for themselves, by making it easier for them to access their inner resources. This gives them a better understanding of their internal processes, such as beliefs, blockages and repetitive patterns, thus promoting lasting personal transformation.
  • Do I risk suffering by remembering a trauma?

It is possible to open the door to emotion by contacting the source of a deep wound. That said, the unconscious is very adept at showing only what can lead to a beneficial release. It never divulges anything that could harm long-term well-being. Moreover, sessions are guided by a trained practitioner, who ensures that the process is safe and respectful of each individual's limits. So, while emotions may emerge, they are always accompanied by support from the therapist, enabling constructive exploration of past experiences, where appropriate. Indeed, sometimes it's not even necessary to take this route to recovery.
